Hi!
Thanks that you want to read more about me! Let me introduce myself: my name is Mick Lammers, I'm 28 years old and live in Arnhem, the Netherlands. I would describe myself as enthousiastic, outgoing and full of ideas! During the day I work as a project lead at a marketing agency. Out of office hours I work on a few things. The most important one is Game Design, because my dream is to become a Game designer.
Besides that I'm working on a game project called 'Rulers of the Sea' as a marketeer. This role is pretty broad, because we are all volunteers and I help out with as much as possible. The goal is to get the funding and start creating the game.
Last but not least: I play games *shocker*.
Games
I think my passion for games started with my passion for the fantasy genre. When I was a kid I read the Harry Potter books and I think I was hooked from there. I've played games all my life, but the one that impressed me the most was/is World of Warcraft (nostalgia). I even spent a lot of time scrolling through the website watching and reading the content, before I had the courage to ask my parents for €12 per month (eventually we did a 50/50 split with my allowance).
I really like to be indulged in a world. That's why I always appreciate good lore in games. Other than that I like to play with friends and I'm fund of competition. If a game has a ranked option, you can count me in. Few of the games I regularly play now are Apex Legends, League of Legends and Elden Ring.
Game Design / Unreal Engine
Back in High school I wanted to be a game designer, so I did some research. My math skills weren't the best and I couldn't draw anything, so at that point I forgot about it. Later in life I was watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (for the millionth time), I saw wizards chess and I thought: "I want to make a game like that". From that point I started weekly meetings with a friend designing and play testing Order of Five. The idea always was to make that it an online game, so I started looking in to Unreal Engine. I don't have any coding experience, so the blueprint scripting really felt like the way to go for me.
I've started with some UE4 Basics courses on Unreal Engine and went on to try and make Order of Five. Without any experience whatsoever I was pretty proud of my achievement of getting the characters on a board and making them able to walk. But I did found out that I need some more experience to really create this game. I did more courses and started making a more simple game called Maze Race. While I'm doing that I've also started a Game Design course to increase my knowledge on actual game design.
